Hs anyone out there undergone a Cornia Transplant especially if you have other eye conditions already? How successful or not? I could us any info you can tell me. the doctor is talking about a Cornia transplant fopr me even though I only have a little vision due to Glauma. I'm interested in anything I can learn from others. Tell your experiences, opinions or anything you think would help. thanks djmom
Hey, I had 3 when I was a baby and noen of them actually worked. I saw for a few days once, but that was it. I don't emember them I was very young.
I have a co-worker who has uveitis and had several cornea transplants. Unfortunately they all eventually failed after a few weeks or months. Eventually she gave up.
welll as a person who's had about 4 or more all have worked except the last one because i had it after i had already lost my vision but i've had some good ones that worked. i've had a lot of surgrys about 18 to 19so it really depends on the person and how well there body heals so that's all i have to say for that. if you would like to ask me more just send me a message thanks.
Okay, if they worked, why did you have so many. I guess I thought if a transplant worked that meant you got sight back and didn't need further transplants.
here's the thing. if you do get the transplants, I think you Have to take medications so your body won't reject it. not sure on that though.
You have to do that with any organ transplant. I think the medicines suppress your immune system as well, so you are more prone to infections, or something like that.
apparently there's research out there at the moment about using tissue from fish to make artificial corneas. It likes like it is more likely that your body will be able to accept it. Until my corneas totally give out though, you're joking if I'm letting someone messaround with my eyes, they're bad enough already thanks,
can't blame you there.
Thanks you for all your comments. I agree with those who say that its not a good idea to allow someone to mess with your eyes if you already have problems. When I talked to the doctor yesterday we both agree the surgery is not a good idea for me. We'll try medication and such but I don't think I'll allow anyone to mess with my corneal. I hope to keep this eye for as long as possible though. It's the only one I have left, even if I only have a little vision. It's better than none at all. Please keep me in prayer. I'm asking the Lord to give me wisdom and courage to deal with all this. You would think with everything else I've been through this would be easier. But it's not. djmom
Hi Djmom,
Yes. Agreed. I just had my fifth cornea transplant on my right eye in March. It was necessary due to a retinal detachment discovered on an A-Scan ultrasound. The doc needed to have a cornea transplant done in order to fix the retinal detachment, so it was a combined surgery. I also have Congenital Glaucoma that has been under control for quite some time now.
Cornea transplants just don't work well with Glaucoma eyes, even when the pressure is under control.
I had a corneal transplant when I was about six months old. It worked for me. I saw for at least two months, then I had an operation on my retina, but that didn't work then a lot of my sight must've deteriorated as from then on, I could only see light and colour and that was only for about three or four years till I started School, then it went all together.
